The Sheroes project is a transformative initiative by the Wadi Ben-Hirki Foundation aimed at promoting girls’ education, gender equality, and empowerment. It strives to raise awareness about pressing issues such as child marriage, female genital mutilation, rape, and trafficking, guiding these girls towards freedom and self-empowerment.
After Banisoro was commissioned to create a brand identity and brand collaterals for the Sheroes project, we got to work researching Wadi Ben-Hirki's work. Her statement, "We have to empower and enable these women and girls to live better lives and play their parts in the future!" summed up the driving force behind her passion and helped us through our creative process.
Focusing on the impact of this project years from now, we anchored our design approach in the core themes of girls’ education, gender equality, and empowerment. From the colour themes to the font, every element was thoughtfully selected with sustainability and empowerment in mind.
The logo embodies the spirit of hope, strength, and resilience. It reflects the journey of these young women as they break free from societal constraints and envision a brighter future.
We chose Variations of Red and yellow to symbolise Vibrancy, energy, and Hope.
We picked a contemporary, sans-serif typeface to make everything easy to read while conveying a modern, professional image. We established a typographic hierarchy to keep things consistent across all communications.
The brand collaterals were designed to be more than just visual elements. They were crafted to communicate the foundation’s mission powerfully and emotively. By using a tone of voice that emphasises togetherness and support, the design inspires and empowers the girls to see beyond their current challenges.
The resource materials are still used today, they have become vital tools in raising awareness and fostering empowerment among young Nigerian women.
Banisoro’s work successfully interpreted the vision of the Sheroes initiative into a reliable identity system that serves as both a resource and a guide for future initiatives. This ensures that the project remains aligned with its mission to empower women and girls, fostering progress and impactful change.
The Sheroes brand identity highlights how thoughtful design can inspire clarity and purpose, helping organizations like Sheroes maintain focus on their goals while amplifying their message. It stands as a testament to the role of design in driving social impact and empowering communities.
